Disaster Survival Kits
Putting together your own disaster survival kit is a good idea to ensure the protection of you and your family in the event of a catastrophic emergency or natural disaster. Whether you face a flood, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, economic, or political breakdown there are certain supplies that will definitely help you get through troubling times.
when you are prepared for the worst it can make survival situations easily to cope with giving you a better chance of getting through it. For starters you’ll want to have access to plenty of clean water and emergency food rations.
Your water supply should consist of a minimum of one gallon of water per person for each day. At the very least you’ll want to keep three days supply of water for each individual. Active people drink one-half gallon of water daily minimum. Clean water is also necessary for other activities like washing, clean up, and cooking. If you live in an area of higher temperatures additional water (double the amount?) may be necessary. to store you water, make sure to keep it sealed and in a cool dark place. You’ll also want to periodically check your dates on your commercially purchased water supply to ensure its freshness.
To ensure you have enough food on hand you will want a minimum of a three day supply for each person. Good food choices to store are those that are non-perishable. Foods that do not require a lot of preparation, or refrigeration are good choices. Freeze dried food, canned foods, whole grain cereals, dry mixes, and salt free crackers work well. you will also want to take into consideration if you need to supply food for the elderly, pregnant women or babies and pick up supplies accordingly.
